Comparing Advanced Therapies for Back Pain: Which One is Best?

If you are in pain, especially in your back, your number one priority is to find a solution that helps you feel better, right?

Unfortunately, if this is your only priority, you are likely to find yourself relying on higher and higher doses of anti-inflammatories and prescription painkillers for minimal relief. Fortunately, many of the advanced therapies we offer address not only your back pain, they also address its underlying cause while giving you a better range of motion, strength and function. Deciding which advanced therapy is best will ultimately depend on the cause of your back pain.

MLS Laser Therapy

During MLS Laser Therapy, light waves at specific lengths are introduced to your bones, muscles and tendons through a laser. These light waves speed cellular recovery while relieving pain and stimulating healing wherever you are hurt. Most sessions last eight minutes and patients often report feeling a comfortable relaxing sensation where the laser is applied.

Best For:

  • Tendon & ligament injuries
  • Sore muscles, muscle strains & tears
  • Degenerative joint problems
  • Neurological & general pain & bruising

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression

Although the DTS Spinal Decompression machine looks complex and painful, the process of spinal decompression is anything but. Patients lay on the decompression table and a computerized system applies the exact amount of counter-traction to the spine to lengthen the spaces between the joints and allow the cushioning discs to change shape and heal. Treatments typically last for less than 20 minutes and many patients report a significant reduction in their pain levels in as few as 6 treatments.

Best For: Degenerative disc conditions and disc herniations

Whether you have a “slipped disc” or have been told you need surgery to repair a ruptured disc, spinal decompression is a safe, viable alternative to surgery. Your body has a natural ability to heal itself once it has been given the tools to do so. By expanding the spaces between the vertebrae, your intervertebral discs return to their natural position and begin to heal on their own.

Conditions Even Advanced Therapies Cannot Help

The vast majority of back pain can be addressed by one or more of Sandstone’s advanced therapies. However, even these proven therapies are not indicated for certain conditions, many of which can be identified by a simple x-ray. Pain caused by fractures to or growths and cancerous tumors on the spine will not be relieved by advanced therapies. Instead, medical intervention may be necessary before the resulting back pain can be addressed. Fortunately, advanced therapies can often be used in conjunction with medications and surgical intervention to offer relief and healing.
